Welcome to 2017 So we begin our 9th year of Wheels in Motion Newsletter at a frantic pace. Many business kicked off the year with Safety Speakers on 3rd Jan...what a great way safe start to the year!! I share my feelings on Jet Skis, Rohan made the local paper in Colac, Woody's Words is gaining a great following and Alan updates on his Bionic Arm. January is a month Michelle wishes didn't come every year... Painful Reminders.
Take care and look out for each other.

To celebrate or not?
Safe New Year to you all....
I hope you made it through the silly season without any injuries or incidents. We all had a good break and are looking forward to catching up with you throughout the year.
For most of us we celebrate this time of year, but for others this is not a good time. Imagine for a minute if one of your family members was hurt or killed in or around christmas.
It would certainly change things at that time of year.
Don’t hurt yourselves people…. Anytime of the year
Whilst everyone recently celebrated
Xmas and the New Year, for our family it was knowing that January would be a vivid reminder of how much we have lost.
Xmas day – Our son Alex was missing (attached is how our family now celebrates Xmas)
January 16 – He would have turned 27 but he’s no longer with us,
January 19 – The cruellest day when he was taken from us, and also the day I lost any reason to celebrate what used to be my birthday (it’s now known as mother & son day)
January 28 – The day I was able to kiss him for the last time.
January 29 – The day our hearts all broke as we farewelled him.
Parents never get over the loss of a child and our lives have been irreversibly
changed.
And it never gets easier, time doesn’t heal.
I want everyone to know this as we still live it every single day.
So with 2017 now ahead of us all, my hope is that our readers can take away how life is for our family.
Don’t allow mistakes to change the course of your life.
Safety is part of life and is there to protect you from living our nightmare
You owe it to yourselves and your loved ones.
I hope I get to meet some more of our readers this year to provide insight to the consequences of loss in the workplace.
It’s a very long road!
Jet Ski’s
This is just a discussion here….. So don’t think I’m trying to be a nanny here.
But we have had a spate of Jet Ski incidents this year so far. I rode a Jet Ski a few years ago and I loved it, it was fast, fun and I was tempted to buy my own (But bought another car instead). So I do know how much fun they can be.
But they can also be dangerous in the wrong hands. So for those of you who have a Jet Ski make sure you operate it within it’s limits and make sure you know your limits.Stay Safe on your Jetski
Well Done
Just a quick pat on the back to some of the companies we have worked with that have started the year with a strong safety theme. Our speakers have shared their stories at these back to work days. Congratulations and keep up the effort throughout the year.
Book Now for 2017
Start 2017 off with a strong safety message. Invite one of our speakers to your site on the first day back at work. We can tailor a message that asks your employees to start the year safely and make sure they are still safe at the end of the year to enjoy another festive season with their families & friends.
Training on the new bionic arm has continued and been a great success, leading to the possible final go ahead to order the arm in February.
There was one glitch when the computer model did not work, there was no brain activity (stop laughing) and no one knew why.
This sent the doctors, the prosthetic team and rehab people into a spin.
One week later we repeated the test and everything worked.
I can only imagine what would have happened down the track, not for me but all the people behind this bionic arm that have put in 1000's of hours of research...and their time to perfect this and give me a chance of the next best thing to a real arm.
