MAKE
A
CALL

A good friend of mine sent me this recently and I just had to share it with you...

Today I was driving along Victoria Road in Lilydale and I turned into Beresford Rd and there was electricity works happening and they had shut down half the road.

The traffic controller on the corner had his back to me, his slow batten up and  was standing in the lane I needed to drive in!

I gave him a little beep to let him know I was there and without turning around he moved off the road!

I was so angry and concerned that if I hadn’t stopped and tooted him, I would have hit him! It would have been my fault and I would have to suffer the consequences.

Its upset me that much that I actually called the traffic control company and explained my concerns. We all go to work expecting to come home, He might well not have and I may have been in serious trouble.
I told them I wasn’t calling to get the employee in trouble, but out of concern for the safety of that employee and those around him. I wanted to offer advice for their toolbox meeting that, he was lucky, I was paying attention, next time he might not be so lucky!

Stay aware of your surroundings and never reply on someone else for your own personal safety. I hope he is made aware of how lucky he was today and to be more vigilant in the future. I don’t want to be the reason he doesn’t come home to his family.

Awesome job T, and for those of you who do see something that you think is a little unsafe please take a couple of minutes just to make a call or write a quick note…..

Here I go again....

I know this is an old chestnut and I keep bringing it up…. But I’m getting really pissed off with hotels that offer
‘Accessible’ accommodation that is just not accessible.
Three (3) times in the last month I have turned up to a hotel that has really shit accommodation! I’m going to start naming these places because I feel that if they can publicly offer that a room is accessible then I can publicly tell them that it is not.

Images below are from a 5 Star hotel...not even enough room for me to transfer from my wheelchair to the seat in the shower!!  WTF...

Michelle’s Thank you…

Recently I was invited to speak with workers at Schindlers Lifts, Sydney and share Alex’s Story.
It’s about time I give a high five to our customers on behalf of CNBSafe Safety Speakers..
They sure do make every effort to ensure we are well cared for during the time we arrive at our destination and beyond.
These day trips can be long, but  they are always worth the time taken to travel to and from these customers sites, because they see real value in what we bring to their business in the hope they can prevent injury or death to one of their own.
I am often told “I don’t know how you do it” OR “Do you relive your pain every time you share Alex’s story”?
To put it simply, the answer is YES, I do relive the loss of my son every time I share his story, but I have built walls that protect me, but that’s also not to say they may crumble some days – that is how grief works!
And why I do it is an easy question to answer – It’s because of the love I have for my son which is forever, my forever…and a promise I made to honour his life “You will never walk Alone.”

My visit to Schindlers Lifts left me feeling very humbled for the care and compassion they gave, and on behalf of Alex and our family, we would like to say ‘thanks’ for allowing us inside your workplace and we hope we made a difference in that you hugged your love ones that night.  Michelle Rath

Carry Me!!

This month I worked for WestConnex who are doing the tunnel up in Sydney NSW. I spent the whole week going around their sites and sharing my story with their people. Some of the lunch rooms were upstairs and the only way I could get to them was to be carried up the stairs.

How would your pride cope with being carried up a set of stairs?
