What does the H stand for?

Most workplaces have OH&S policies in place, we have OH&S committees and OH&S meetings but I believe that the H is forgotten about some of the time.
The H obviously stands for HEALTH, now this can apply to our workplace health, but it can also apply to our personal health.

We are all different and we all have different values and priorities. But I think some of us just don’t care when it comes to our health. I think I am lucky as I have always had an interest in my own health. When I was a kid I was active and then as I got older I made the time to exercise. After my accident I got into sport and competed for many years in wheelchair racing.

But then something happened. I stopped competing in sport, I got busy with my family and with work, I was travelling a lot and I just didn’t make the time to exercise and within a short time 20 extra kilograms had decided to live with me!

I was away last week and I caught up with a mate that I had not seen for nearly 20 years and he mentioned that I had put on some weight!

So that was my turning point. I decided that I was going to start on a Health Kick and see if I could get rid of some of the Kilo’s I was carrying around. Today I’m going to pump up the tyres on my bike and get into a bit of riding. I’ll also cut back on the beer and watch what I eat. So if I can put in a bit of effort I reckon you can all do the same.
I’ll keep you informed of how I’m going…… Woody

Smithy gets Married
A huge congratulations to one of our speakers Greg Smith who recently got married to his partner Amaya. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing their adventures.
It was one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to.
Well done Greg and Amaya

Got any Dope?

I was listening to the radio yesterday and I heard that the government has approved the use of medicinal cannabis to treat some medical conditions. Now my first reaction was “I have to get some of this” because I do suffer from some pretty severe nerve pain and nothing I’ve tried over the years has made any difference!

But then I started thinking about how it might affect people in other ways?
Now I’m sure they have looked into all of this but if someone has some medicinal cannabis and then drives a vehicle or a piece of machinery…..
Will they still be competent enough to operate it?

So I’m going to look into it…..
Firstly I want to give it a go to see if it makes any difference to my pain.
But also I want to look into it from a safety viewpoint!
